Welcome to Alpha

A Practical Introduction to the Christian Faith

What is Alpha?

Alpha is for:

Anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian faith.

Learning and laughter. It is possible to learn about the Christian faith and have fun at the same time.

Pasta & pudding. Eating a meal together gives people an opportunity to get to know each other.

Helping one another. The small groups give you a chance to discuss issues raised during the talks.

Ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is seen as too simple or too hostile.

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for everyone! It’s especially geared to:

  • People interested in investigating Christianity.
  • Newcomers to the church
  • New Christians.
  • Christians who want to brush up on the basics.

What Happens on Alpha?

There is a series of talks on topics such as:

  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus Die?
  • Why and How Should I Read the Bible?
  • Why and How Do I Pray?
  • What About the Holy Spirit?
  • How Can I Overcome Evil?
  • Why and How Should I Tell Others?
  • Does God Heal Today?
  • What about the Church?

After each talk there is a small-group time for everyone to discuss any questions or issues they have. This gives an opportunity to get to know each other and to learn together.

Why Alpha?

What is Alpha from a Priest’s Perspective?

Why Me?

The why of Alpha can be summarized in a few words: First, Alpha is a proven method of coming to understand the overwhelming Love God has for us. This method is simple to understand and easily translates to our hearts. Secondly, this Christianity 101 (Alpha) answers the most often asked questions about faith in an exploratory environment.

The reason this and many other Priests and other Clergy world-wide value Alpha (Christianity 101) is that it truly prepares and equips the faithful for their ministry and is a most effective way of introducing the never churched, newly churched, and long ago churched to the living Christ.

The “why me” of all this can be answered by asking oneself the question: “Am I knowledgeable about the Lord and am I prepared to speak intelligently of His Love?” If either answer is no, then Alpha if for you. In addition, all this is fun, stimulating, and incredibly growth provoking!

Would you like to bring Alpha to your church?

The ideal way to bring Alpha to your church would be to have a team of four or more attend an Alpha conference.

Go to www.alphausa.org to find information about the next scheduled conference.

Another suggestion would be to have the team attend a 10-week course.

See above for details on the Welcome dinner and the course.
